What I Have Read on Social Media for Business
(Last Updated On: February 5, 2022)

As I come to understand a topic, I devour books looking for tips and tricks to get the most out of what I learn. Early on, I realized the importance of social media to learning, community building, and business. Here is my collection of social media books I have read and reviewed. The reviews are posted on my personal site.

Smart Social Media: Your Guide to Becoming a Highly Paid Social Media Manager

Just getting my new business off the ground, I thought I could benefit from all the advice I could get. Lasse Rouhiainen’s book, Smart Social Media: Your Guide to Becoming a Highly Paid Social Media Manager, proved to have some gems hidden in it. I will capitalize on his advice as I develop a business to help others figure out how to leverage social media.

A World Gone Social

This book talks about the importance of social media for business. More importantly, it addresses the need for employees at all levels of the organization to use social media to advance the objectives of the organization. This is not necessarily a new theme. It is one I have been reading about for the past couple of years. However, the message seems to be more pointed, leverage social media or become extinct.

Social Media Mastery

Social Media Mastery (A Daily Actions Guide)

While on my train trip across the states, I had an opportunity to read Social Media Mastery (A Daily Actions Guide) by Tara Ross. This was an enjoyable little book well suited for small business owners and beginners to social media. Over the course of 19 chapters, she not only introduced common topics such as Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube but also included topics not commonly discussed such as Academia.edu, Reddit, and Scribd. I appreciated the glimpse into these seldom-discussed applications.

Organizations Don’t Tweet, People Do: A Manager’s Guide to the Social Web

I am going to tell you about a book that I believe is extremely important to organizations and how we communicate and learn. This book is Organizations Don’t Tweet, People Do: A Manager’s Guide to the Social Web by Euan Semple. When I first looked at the title, I thought it was about how to use social media in the workplace, but I found it was more than that. It is about the importance of allowing employees to use social media tools to learn, collaborate, and share information.

Google Plus Marketing Made Easy: The Complete Guide to Getting More Traffic, More Customers and Building Your Brand With Google+

In an effort to learn more about Google+, I had picked up Ryan Bush’s book, Google Plus marketing made easy: The complete guide to getting more traffic, more customers and building your brand with Google+. It is available as a kindle book. The book is a very quick read; each section is only a couple of pages. The information Bush provided is useful but not really unique.

What the Plus! Google+ for the Rest of Us

I just finished Guy Kawasaki’s book, What the Plus! Google+ for the rest of us. I picked up the book because I am interested in Google+. The book is a quick read but provides a wealth of information gleaned from his personal experience. It was fun to read a book written by someone who so thoroughly enjoyed his topic.

Google+ for Business

I am giving Google+ another look because of what I read in Chris Brogan’s book Google+ for Business. The title is a little deceptive because I believe this book would be enlightening for everyone interested in how to get the most out of Google+.

Stephan Hovnanian has written a series of short books on how to leverage Google+. Google+ Pro Tips: How to Get More Visibility on Google+ focuses on how to get more visibility on Google+. Google+ Pro Tips: Managing Your Google+ Circles

I downloaded a little book written by Stephan Hovnanian to my Kindle that focuses entirely on Google+ Circles. I have to say that I am very pleasantly pleased with the book. Even though I am quite familiar with Google+ and its Circles, I walked away with some new ideas that I plan to implement in the very near future.

Google+ Pro Tips: Strategies for Posting & Sharing on Google+

Google+ Pro Tips: Strategies for Posting & Sharing on Google+ is another Stephan Hovnanian book. It is part of an informative series on how to get the more out of Google+. As I have mentioned in previous posts, Hovnanian writes from a business perspective, yet, I believe the content in this book will work for many disciplines. This book focuses specifically on best practices for adding content to Google+.

Google+ Pro Tips: How to Bring Your Audience to Google+

This is the last post on an informative series focusing on leveraging Google+ written by Stephan Hovnanian. This book, Google+ Pro Tips: How to Bring Your Audience to Google+, addresses building your Google+ audience and actually provides strategies you need to take Google+ to the next level.

All of these books will point you in the right direction as well as the links I am collecting in Pinterest. There are so many different social media tools available to business owners. While each is relatively easy to use, they can be hard to master. Each business has unique needs, I can help you narrow the field of social media tools and learn what you need to do to get the most out of each tool.
