One of the greatest impediments to learning and reading is poor vocabulary. Poor vocabulary will hold back your learners. A strong vocabulary will help individuals extract the exact meaning of what someone has said or written. Vocabulary instruction needs to be weaved into your course.

There are many different ways you can help learners with vocabulary specific to your discipline. The strategies I will show you are easy to implement and will help learners become familiar with the terms used in your discipline.

One of the key principles of Universal Design for Learning focuses on clarifying vocabulary and symbols. The designers of UDL realize that prepping learners on vocabulary increases content comprehension.

In this episode, I am going to highlight why it is important to teach vocabulary to students as well as provide strategies for doing so.
