I have been spending more and more time in Asana. Asana is a project management tool and I use it to track progress on projects I am responsible for as well as track my to-do list. For ease of use, I like to have a printed to-do list in front of me. Until recently, I would scribble out a to-do list on a piece of paper. Because I wanted to automate this process, I wanted to learn how to print out an Asana task list. Fortunately, it is quite easy to do.
With Asana, it is possible to create projects with tasks and subtasks. Each of these tasks can be assigned to an individual as well as have due dates. Lists with these tasks can be organized by project or individual. Once you have a list, you can then print it.
Tips for Success
Before you print out an Asana task list, you will want to ensure that your tasks are assigned to someone and if applicable have a due date.
Here are the steps for printing out each list:
Project List
If you want to print out a task sheet for a specific project, select a project from the left-hand menu.
Change the view for the list. Here are options that you can change in the free version of Asana:
- View (Incomplete, Complete, All)
- Sort (None, Due Date, Assignee, Likes, Alphabetical)
Once you have arranged your list the way you want it, it is now time to print it. At the top of the list page next to the project title, there are three dots ···. Click on these three dots to access the submenu.
Expand the Export/Print menu option, and finally, select Print…
Individual List
If you are working in a team environment and using Asana, you may have tasks spread across many projects. You can get a printout of all your tasks by first selecting the My Tasks menu item from the left-hand menu.
You can then change the view and sort settings prior to printing. I recommend organizing by project.
Once you have arranged the view and sort settings, click on these three dots ··· to access the submenu. It can be found next to the main title above the list of tasks.
From the submenu, select Print.
When you print out an Asana task list, it will also print out the subtasks for the list. This is important to note because a simple to do list of two pages grew to 18 pages when I included all my tasks with subtasks.
The printed Asana task list will have checkboxes that you can check, which I like. I like to check off tasks as I complete them. Additionally, the project list will indicate who is the assignee. Both lists will show the due dates.
I like to have a printed list in front of me as I work. I will check off the tasks throughout the day on the printed list and then mark them complete in Asana at the end of the day.
