Strategies for Posting & Sharing on Google+Google+ Pro Tips: Strategies for Posting & Sharing on Google+* is another Stephan Hovnanian book. It is part of an informative series on how to get the more out of Google+. As I have mentioned in previous posts, Hovnanian writes from a business perspective, yet, I believe the content in this book will work for many disciplines. This book focuses specifically on best practices for adding content to Google+

There are five chapters in this book along with a quick start checklist:

  • Posting Intent
  • Post Formatting
  • Balancing between Page versus Profile
  • Posting Etiquette
  • Advanced Posting Techniques

Hovnanian began by stressing the need for intent for your posts. Understand why you are posting, selecting the best content to meet your intent, and ensuring strategy for post type meets the goal. While he noted that images attract more engagement, he provided a number of examples of different ways to make a post to get the intent that you are striving for.

In addition to selecting the right intent and right content, Hovnanian introduced basic formatting, e.g., bold, italics, strike through, etc. He included best practices for formatting Google+ posts. Part of his best practice guidance is the use of hashtags.

In balancing posts to profiles and business pages, Hovnanian outlined a number of best practices as well as clarified why you would want this balance. “In summary, keep the Google+ page focused on the brand and the industry” (Hovnanian, 2014, Chap. 3, para. 14).

Hovnanian provided a very useful collection of tips focusing on post etiquette. I believe these tips apply to other social media platforms and will keep you in good graces with everyone. He stressed that you should always add value and not “link dump.” Also, do not spam your circles unless you provided an opt in capability.

Finally, Hovnanian provided lots of marketing strategies that address different time zones, leveraging your communities, sharing Google+ posts outside of Google+, and recognizing others.

As with the other books in the series, he included a quick start guide with 6 to do tasks that will help you put what you have learned into practice. As with the other books, I personally walked away with a number of new ideas. I look forward to putting them into practice.

This is another book that focuses on the purpose described. If you are interested in creating better posts for Google+, I would recommend this book. It is not a book with technical details, but a book that provides strategies for use.
