Book Review: Mekong Massacre - Black Eagles
(Last Updated On: July 13, 2020)

Every once in awhile, I need a book simply to escape. While I was combing through my bookcases, I found Mekong Massacre – Black Eagles by John Lansing. It was a quick and fun read as I was taking the train from Buffalo to New York City. Mekong Massacre is about the fictional team’s, The Black Eagles, rescue of a POW in VietNam.

Mekong Massacre is a paperback of 235 pages spread across 21 chapters.

I thought Lansing did a good job of keeping the action going as well as developing the key characters. Starting from page one, I was eager to see what happened next. I was not disappointed.

As to be expected with a rough and tumble military novel, the language can be at times “not safe for work” unless you are in the rough and tumble military.

I thought the book was well researched in terms of the language, location descriptions, and tactics used. I was intrigued by the interrogation tactics used. In the story, they were led by a Korean rather than a VietCong.

Lansing did a great job of building suspense throughout the book. There was a new wrinkle every few pages.

If you enjoy war novels and are looking for a fast page book to distract you from the day, I recommend that you check out Mekong Massacre. I was entertained.
