As I prepare for my spring term, I have decided to change out the major assignment. Instead of having the students work on an OER chapter, I will have them do three mini-projects focusing on multimedia learning. I wanted to provide them with latitude on what they would create as well as the topic. To do that, I am going to use the RAFT strategy. RAFT stands for Role, Audience, Format, and Topic. I picked this strategy up from Katie Novak in her book UDL Now!

As you can surmise, RAFT assignments are in line with Universal Design for Learning principles.

In this episode, you will learn about the RAFT strategy for creating assignments as well as developing rubrics to help assess diverse submissions. This will lead to more creative and engaging assignments.
