Sometimes, you need to look outside your domain to get inspiration. For me, one of the places I go for new ideas is to the Social Media Marketing World conference in San Diego. The conference focuses on using social media to help promote services and products. Over the past couple of years, there has been a significant shift with the type of content that social media platforms like Facebook will put in front of users. Facebook is now emphasizing relationships and making connections as well as using video for increasing engagement.

Social Media Marketing World is a first-class conference experience. In this episode, I will share what makes this conference so great. There are definitely takeaways that higher ed can use. Primarily, I will be sharing three themes that cut across the entire conference. These themes are

  • Building relationships
  • Using video to increase engagement
  • Taking time for creativity

Across the nation, we are seeing declining enrollment, perhaps these marketers hold the key to increasing enrollment. They attend this conference to learn how to build relationships and increase engagement. These strategies can help promote our product—higher learning.
