Book Review: A Cold Day in Hell (A Cold Case Investigation)
(Last Updated On: )

I really enjoyed A Cold Day in Hell written by Lissa Marie Redmond. It was a page-turner that I just did not want to put down. I very much liked the pace of the reading and the knowledge that she brought to the pages as cold case investigation detective.

Redmond placed the action in Buffalo. This is a place right up the road from me, and a place where she had worked her cold cases. In the book, she described places that I am familiar with. For other places, she used fake names. While this is a work of fiction, I am confident that she brought some of her past acquaintances to life in these pages.

The story is about a female cold case homicide detective who has taken on a private eye case in addition to her normal work. The story has a number of dimensions as she is working with individuals with whom she’s had strained relations. Not only must she navigate these relationship waters, as you can feel the tension through the writing, but she also has to balance the politics of her day-to-day work with that of her side hustle.

As the case unfolds, there is a lot of logic and thought put into the plot. She brings in small details that only somebody with experience can do.

I picked up A Cold Day in Hell at our local bookstore, Off the Beaten Path in Lakewood, New York. The owner recommended the book and it satisfied a Modern Mrs. Darcy Reading Challenge book topic. I have to say that it was an excellent choice. I really enjoyed reading the book. As I said, I couldn’t put it down. It has increased my desire to go get additional recommendations from Off the Beaten Path.

If you were looking for a good crime mystery, I would definitely recommend that you picked up A Cold Day in Hell by Lissa Marie Redmond.
