I am so pleased with what Pamela Wilson shared in her book Master Content Strategy: How to Maximize Your Reach and Boost Your Bottom Line Every Time You Hit Publish that quickly sent for her first book, Master Content Marketing. If you are trying to get a handle on your content creation and distribution, I would strongly recommend Master Content Strategy.

Master Content Strategy spans 197 pages and is packed with great tips. Wilson organized the twenty chapters into three parts:

  • Introducing the Lifecycle Approach to Content Strategy
  • Content Marketing Crash Course
  • Supercharge Your Content Impact

Lifecycle Approach

In the first part of the book, Wilson outlined her lifecycle approach to content creation. She organized the content for a website into stages similar to raising a child. As a content creator, you approach a new website (0-1 year) different than a growing site (2-5 years). Mature websites (6 plus years) will have an even different experience.

A new website is focused on developing new content, whereas the subsequent years are focused on improving the content. Additionally, you will learn to reuse and repurpose the content to help build a larger audience.

Content Creation

In the second part of the book, Wilson shared an abbreviated version of her 4-Day Content Creation System. In her system, she dedicated each day to a different part of the content creation process. The reason I picked up her first book, Master Content Marketing, is because she thoroughly explains the entire system.

Another point she emphasized that resonated with me was the importance of focusing on your entire body of work as you develop new content.

Repurposing Content

The last part of the book focused on making your content more impactful. Wilson shared many different strategies for reusing and repurposing your content. She encouraged readers to look at how to tap into audio, video, and visual representations of your content.

Wilson also provided strategies for creating an editorial calendar to carry one through the entire year. This calendar also focuses on refreshing previously created content.

I found Master Content Strategy easy to read and very conversational. Each of the chapters was quite short. Depending upon the topic, the chapters ranged from two to a dozen pages. Throughout the pages, Wilson shared resources to help you create content easier. She is also supporting her book with a bonus section that pulls a lot of the book content into useful checklists.

Master Content Strategy is a book that I would share with my clients and teammates. Wilson shared a straight forward set of strategies for creating content. For business owners who believe they do not have time to develop content for their business, this book puts those myths to rest.
