I picked up Wrath and Ruin: A Chilling Anthology at a Barnes and Noble bookstore near Corning, New York. C.W. Briar had a table with his books. After talking with him about his books and his writing processes, I decided to give his book a chance. I am glad that I did. It was hard to put down and I was eager to get back to it each day.

Wrath and Ruin is an anthology of chilling tales. Overall the book is 292 pages long. Within the book, there are nine stories that will keep you guessing until the end. Each story varies in length but each is wonderfully written.

The tales that I really enjoyed were Lust about a man’s desires that got the better of him. The Other Edge is about space voyagers who couldn’t leave things be. Turpentine highlights an obsession that went wrong. My absolute favorite was called Ghoul. It is about a pair of ghoul hunters and one particular case they had worked.

Briar is able to keep the suspense going throughout the tale. I did not know what was going to happen until the very end. Each time, I shook my head in approval. He is a wonderful storyteller.

I have to admit that I do not read a lot of fiction and I may be easy to please, but I was thoroughly entertained by Briar’s ability to weave a tale. As I noted earlier, Wrath and Ruin was hard to put down. If you like suspense, I think you will enjoy this book.
