Over the course of my working life, I have participated in over one hundred simulations. These have been as part of training exercises or evaluations. Simulations are a powerful way to drive home a lesson. I am confident that simulations can help develop skills and knowledge that are not found through reading or lecture. We need more simulations in our classrooms.

Simulations can add a level of realism to a lesson. In this episode, I explore simulations and how they can be used in the classroom. Simulations are tools that replicate the conditions of the real world. It allows students to navigate through lifelike scenarios without putting them in harm’s way. We are going to explore the idea of simulations, provide examples of simulations, and provide strategies for successfully using them in a classroom.
I have seen simulations primarily being used to help provide training or evaluation in
- Healthcare
- Military
- Law Enforcement
- Emergency Management
Yet, simulations are being used across countless other disciplines from aviation to weather and business to electronics. We need to continue to explore ways to incorporate simulations in the classroom.
