Book Review: The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo

Book Review: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
(Last Updated On: )

Wow! What a wonderful book! The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo kept me turning pages. This suspense thriller written by Stieg Larsson was packed with an amazing amount of detail. I couldn’t wait to see what happened next. I picked this book up to satisfy a category from Modern Mrs. Darcy Reading Challenge. I had to read a book in translation. This book was initially written in Swedish.
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is 590 pages long spread across 29 chapters and four parts. The parts are Incentive; Consequence Analyses; Mergers; and Hostile Takeover.

While the story focuses on a main plot that transcends the entire book, there are four or five subplots that run throughout the book. With at least a dozen characters, each character has an issue they must resolve.

Mikael Blomkvist is a journalist who is found liable for slander. He, in turn, is hired to solve a forty year murder mystery. He is assisted by Lisbeth Salander who is a troubled individual but a skilled researcher. Her hacking skills and unorthodox methods for solving problems helps to uncover a fair amount of leads that help to solve the murder.

Larsson wrote this novel with an amazing amount of detail. I could easily visualize the characters and scenes. He took me to his world. He was convincing in his arguments, which logically supported the path he laid out.

Once I finished reading The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, I then watched the English version of the movie with the same name. Naturally, the movie paled in comparison to the book, although the movie was still enjoyable to watch. What I found to be missing were the internal conversations the characters had that helped provide depth to the situations. Additionally, there was a scene in the book where Mikael and Lisbeth stayed in a beach house. This was missing in the film, and as a result, it left out needed tension between Mikael and his co-owner, Erika.

If you like suspense, definitely pick up and read The Girl with the Dragon TattooIt kept me hooked from the first page to the last.
