If you’re running a business, it’s a good idea to keep an eye on your competition and see how they are doing. One of the ways of doing this is inside of Facebook. Using Pages to Watch, you can list pages from your competitors or other fan pages that are inspirational. You can then get ideas and see what’s driving their traffic. So, let me show you how to do this.

Adding Pages to Watch

In order to add a page to watch, you must have 100 fans of your site. Once you have 100 fans, this is something you should immediately do. Here are steps to add a page:

  1. From your Facebook Business Page, click on Insights.
  2. Scroll down to the Pages to Watch section.
  3. Click on the Add pages button.
  4. Enter a page name into the search.
  5. Click the +Watch button to add it to your list.

This listing shows you how many Page Likes they have. You can see whether they are adding or losing fans and the rate. The page shows you how many posts they are added. Finally, you get to see the amount and type of engagement they are getting.

If you click on the page’s name, you will be shown the top posts for the week.

Finding Pages to Follow

If you are not familiar with competitors in your area, you can find them through a number of searches.

Google Search

With Google, you can search for your industry and your town. Here are examples:

  • Internet marketing near me
  • Internet marketing Lakewood, NY

Business Listings

Another way I found local competition was to search through local business listings such as the Chamber of Commerce.

LinkedIn

Conduct a LinkedIn search using an industry keyword and your town. I was able to find two additional pages to watch using this method.

Facebook

Finally, if you search for your industry key phrase, Facebook will show you pages that are near you.

It can be very insightful to see what others are doing to grow their base. One thing I do understand is that you need to regularly share relevant content to keep people coming back.

Good luck putting your list together. Remember, you must have 100 fans before you can start. If you need help growing your fan base or finding pages to follow, please contact me.
