The very first session of Social Media Marketing World that I attended was How to Build Your Online Personal Brand for Long-term Business Success with Chris Ducker. This presentation focused on the importance of relations and helping others.
According to Ducker, keys to success are building relationships. Unlike family, we can choose all our other relationships. We tend to associate with people we know and trust. This includes companies. We choose to do business with companies that we know and trust. To be successful, it’s essential to get clients to know and trust you.
A way to get customers to know and trust you is by focusing on serving your customers not selling to them. To serve your customers, you must understand yourself, understand your customers, and know what problems they are facing.
Ducker also stressed the importance of standing out and being original. Do not copy what others are doing, be yourself and share your story and product.
Concentrate on solving the problems of others. Develop a relationship that others will seek out. Do you have a favorite brand or product that costs more or is harder to get but you still get it? Be that brand or relationship.
Another way for businesses to get to know and trust you is by sharing your website and social media. As discussed in Rich Brooks’ book The Lead Machine, you can a level of trust by consistently adding credible content to the web.
