Book Review: The Siamese Twin Mystery (An Ellery Queen Mystery)
(Last Updated On: January 4, 2020)

Ellery Queen has been a favorite of mine since I was a kid. I used to watch the series on Sunday evenings. Recently, I watched the series again on Amazon Prime.

While I was at a local library book sale, I came across the book, The Siamese Twin Mystery. Looking for a good mystery to read, I bought it. I certainly was not disappointed.

Ellery Queen wrote this mystery in 1933. While I appreciate the dialogue and descriptions of objects from that period of time, this mystery read well over 85 years later. As I have mentioned in other reviews, I am exposed to language that I do not commonly read in more current books. Queen definitely has command of the written language.

In the 325 pages, the story unfolded across four parts and nineteen chapters.

As to be expected in an Ellery Queen mystery, there are twists and turns on every page. During the first part of the book, each of the participants are revealed. Over the rest of the book, you uncover their relationship to one another. Of course, there is also a murder.

In part two of The Siamese Twin Mystery, Queen and his dad, the inspector, uncovered clues and work to put them together. I am amazed at how the story unfolds. I really appreciate the thought that goes into the writing of these mysteries. Just like the series, I had worked hard to unravel the mystery.

Part three introduces a major twist in the story. Just when you think you have it solved, Queen explained how the logic is wrong. His explanation introduced new relationships, which then led down a different path.

Finally, in the fourth part, Queen explained how the murder occurred. The logic is fascinating. Each time I read an Ellery Queen mystery, I get excited about the puzzle that unfolds. Throughout the book, I was eager to see what happened next.

Ellery Queen mysteries are just a lot of fun. When I read his books, I cannot get the character from the TV series out of my head. If you like lighthearted mysteries with a twisting plot, you need to check out some Ellery Queen mysteries. I would certainly recommend that you check out The Siamese Twin Mystery.
