How is your 2017 Reading Challenge going? Are you still cranking away at your reading list?
Back in January, I invited you to join me on a reading challenge. Well, since the first quarter of the year is done, I thought I would let you know what my progress was.
If you remember, the Modern Mrs. Darcy Reading Challenge for 2017 had two lists to choose from: one for fun and one for growth. I elected to do both. Here is where I stand on each list:
Reading for Fun
- A book you chose for the cover
- A book with a reputation for being un-put-down-able
- A book set somewhere you’ve never been but would like to visit
- A book you’ve already read
- A juicy memoir – Band of Brothers: E Company, 506th Regiment, 101st Airborne from Normandy to Hitler’s Eagle’s Nest
- A book about books or reading – Write, Publish, Promote: How to write a best seller, self-publish, and then keep selling it
- A book in a genre you usually avoid – Death: An Exploration: Learning To Embrace Life’s Most Feared Mystery
- A book you don’t want to admit you’re dying to read
- A book in the backlist of a new favorite author
- A book recommended by someone with great taste
- A book you were excited to buy or borrow but haven’t read yet
- A book about a topic or subject you already love – Leaders Eat Last: Why Some Teams Pull Together and Others Don’t
Reading for Growth
- A Newberry Award winner or Honor book
- A book in translation
- A book that’s more than 600 pages – Tools of Titans-The Tactics, Routines, and Habits of Billionaires, Icons, and World-class Performers
- A book of poetry, a play, or an essay collection
- A book of any genre that addresses current events – The Inevitable: Understanding the 12 Technological Forces That Will Shape Our Future
- An immigrant story
- A book published before you were born – Outwitting the Devil: The Secret to Freedom and Success
- Three books by the same author
- A book by an #ownvoices or #diversebooks author
- A book with an unreliable narrator or ambiguous ending
- A book nominated for an award in 2017
- A Pulitzer Prize or National Book Award winner
It looks like I am on track to successfully complete this challenge. The other part of my personal challenge is going slower, and that is reading one of the Great Books of Western Civilization. Right now, I am at the beginning of The Federalist Papers.
